Stelter Cross Peen
Stelter Cross Peen
Forged from 1045 carbon steel with a custom octagon hickory handle. The story behind the name is that years ago I was at a hammer-in event with Will Stelter, and he forged his first hammer there under the instruction of Brent Bailey. This is the style of hammer that he made, which resembled an antique head on a treadle hammer. Will asked me to make one for him a few years ago, and I’ve been making them ever since.
John Little on the Stelter Cross Peen:
”Weighs 4 pounds ... handles like it’s 3 pounds, hits like it’s 5 pounds. Magic hammer.”
The cross or straight peen hammer is used for extreme lateral draws (making material as wide as possible as you flatten it with the peen). A stylish cross peen is needed in every iron worker’s tool hoard!
If you would like a custom request with your hammer, such as a specific weight, or a charred (blackened) handle, I'd be more than willing to try to get you exactly what you want!
