Want to volunteer to work on the steam locomotive?

If you are interested in spending a day at my shop getting your hands dirty working on a steam locomotive, here are the types of jobs that are available:

-Taking apart piping/fittings
-Polishing brass pieces such as valves, name plates, cab appliances, etc.
-Grinding break shoes
-De-greasing
-Sandblasting
-Painting
-Welding on saddle tank*
-Turning parts on the lathe*

*These jobs would require a competent skillset in their respective areas.

You must be of sound mind and body and have experience working with your hands. This opportunity is NOT for someone who is new to working with tools like an angle grinder, drill press, etc.

The first group work day is tentatively September 13, 2025, but if you are skilled in welding or machining, I can possibly accommodate a different day.

Send in your contact info below, and we’ll be in contact about the possibility of you coming out to Harty Locomotive Works for a day! Fair warning, I may give you a good ol’ fashioned phone call to discuss details.
